We all want to be healthy and happy. We all want to live a long and happy life and be physically fit … but to be truly physically fit, means we must also be psychologically – or mentally – healthy.
All too often we don’t address the mental and behavioral part of our healthy well-being. It’s the part that we might struggle with internally – but that no one sees ‘physically’ in our day-to-day activities. In today’s society we see people living their ‘Best Life’ online through social media, and we believe – in some cases – that they’re better than we are … happier … richer … healthier. All the while, we’re struggling internally with depression, anxiety and stress.
We fear that if we say we need to address our mental health, we’ll be ostracized or shunned by our friends and family. However, if we had a physical injury or an illness, our friends and family would support and encourage us to seek help … to seek treatment. Why should it be different with mental health?
